In all our time together Nancy has often mentioned stories of her exciting love life. It's hard for me to keep up sometimes, but I have deduced enough to understand that Nancy is quite a fox. Or a minx. One of those quadrupeds that women are compared to in a semi-flattering mostly-non-derogatory way. In fact, I'm starting to think 'Desperate Housewives' was based on Nancy's life. If it wasn't, it totally should have been. How is there not a TV show about nursing homes? Imagine the potential: romance, drama, prescription medications! The possibilities are endless! The entertainment industry is completely ignoring this untapped resource. There aren't even any reality shows (that I'm aware of) about nursing homes, or elderly people in general. But they're so interesting. And wise! (e.g. The Golden Girls) There is one movie that comes to mind- a documentary from a few years ago called 'Young At Heart' about an elderly choral group that perform contemporary music. Let me tell you, an 85-year-old man singing Coldplay in memory of his deceased friend will reduce you to tears faster than those Animal Welfare League commercials.
I am really quite astonished at the apparent underrepresentation of the elderly on TV. Maybe they should try a spinoff of a really popular show, like 'Grey's Anatomy: The Later Years,' or 'Survivor: Golden Nursing Home.' On second thought, that last one sounds kind of morbid. And upsetting. But in any case, if you're ever bored of watching the young, tan, overly-processed, anorexic idiots of reality TV, I recommend you head over to your local nursing home for some quality entertainment. That's where the real party is.
